Henry Sanchez at Visual Arts Gallery, NYC

Henry Sanchez is our favorite conceptual artist. Our favorite conceptual artist to bend elbows with at any rate. Back in the day we dug his massive painterly Luchadores, images of iconic masked Mexican ass kicking wrestlers, but he’s since stopped getting dirty in the studio and moved on to embrace theory. Sanchez’s latest work “Extending it’s Helping Hand” a three panel video now up at SVA’s gallery “traces the career of a Jersey politician who rose as a reformer and fell as a convicted felon” the artist writes. The work provides a compelling and thoughtful experience exploring Sanchez interest in political affairs(he holds a poli-sci graduate degree) and if he’s there, Henry will certainly explain the work to you. Just don’t roll up on him. The Texas born artist recently moved to Do Or Die Bed Stuy where he tends to get robbed at gun point so approach him gingerly.
